Rules & Regulations

The Tournament format is as follows:

  • All teams are guaranteed to play three (3) games
  • Each team will play their first game on Friday.
  • Teams will play down in their respective pools.  Top teams from each pool will advance to the semi-final round.
  • Semi-Final & Championship Game will be played on Sunday.
  • Maximum number of games will be five (5).

Local Ground Rules:

  1. Baseball Ontario SELECT Tournament Rules and Arm Care Rules shall apply.  Subject to the exceptions as indicated in the following rules.  Know the pitch count and days of rest rules.
  2. Payment of entry fee will apply as an appearance bond and will not be refunded.
  3. Tournament is broken into three (3) divisions from twelve teams.  Each Division will have four (4) teams.  The teams within the division will play each other.  The team with the best record in the division will advance to the semi-final round.  One wildcard team with the best record of the remaining nine teams will also advance to the semi-final round.  If two or more teams are tied, then the Baseball Ontario Select tie break rules will be used to decide the division winner.
  4. Standings will be determined by the numbers of points earned (2 for a win, 1 for a tie & 0 for a loss).  The BASEBALL ONTARIO SELECT Tie breaking formula will be used in the case of a tie in points:  P/N The game score is taken once the other team cannot win.  All mercies are based on the Select Baseball Rules (18 runs after 3, 15 runs after 4 and 10 runs after 5 innings)
  5. Teams are required to check in with convenor 45 minutes before the start of their 1st game.
  6. Home field determined before start of the game by a coin t Furthest team away makes the call.
  7. Games to start promptly on time as per schedule.  Teams must be present and ready to play 15 minutes ahead of scheduled time if deemed necessary by the convener.
  8. Any player, coach or manager ejected by an umpire from the sanctioned tournament game is suspended for 1 game, and this to be the next scheduled game in that tournament.  A suspension is appealable by the No individual to the tournament director.
  9. No new inning will start after two (2) hours from the first pitch of a game.   No time limit in the semi-final & final games, (Mercy Rule still applies.) Exception Friday games are 1 hour & 45 minutes, no new inning.
  10. There is no 2 out runner for the catcher rule.  Catcher stays on base.
  11. The tournament schedule may be revised in case of rain or other delays.
  12. No protesting judgment calls.  The decision of the umpire is final.
  13. Managers and coaches are responsible for the conduct of anyone involved with their team.
  14. Tournament awards will be set at sixteen (16) per team.
  15. Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages or drugs are permitted in the park.
  16. Oakville Whitecaps Baseball and its officials accept no responsibility for any injuries to anyone in the park during the tournament.
